Junior High Update

"Parent's Night Out" is coming to Maple Leaf!! Parents of young children at Maple Leaf can enjoy a night out while their children enjoy a night of fun while being watched, played with, and fed by our middle and high school youth. Two adults will also be on site. This is scheduled for Friday evening, Nov. 10, from 5 - 9 PM. (Later pickups might be available by special request)
Cost is $10 per child, with money raised to be used for youth activities and to lower costs for retreats. (additional donations are welcome!) Sign up during fellowship time after church, or call J'Anna Chilcoat at 527-2664.

Middle School Lock-In: All middle school youth and their friends are invited to attend an all night event at Maple Leaf on Nov. 17-18. Starts at 7 PM and ends after breakfast Saturday morning. Come for games, movies, food and fun! ...and a little sleep.

High School Gathering - Updated sign-up date

Since no one told me that they planned to go to this retreat, we're going for the late registration. This means I need to know who is going by October 13th and it will now cost $65.

How to Subscribe to Youth Blog

There are 2 ways to "subscribe" the blog.
  1. Subscribe to the mailing list. All posts & comments get forwarded to this mailing list. For the technical people out there, this isn't really subscribing to the blog, but for most people it is the easiest way to get the news sent directly to their email inbox.
    1. To subscribe to the mailing list send a blank email to mllcyg-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
    2. You should get an email with instuctions on how to unsubscribe to the list if you wish
  2. Subscribe to the web feed. This requires additional software or web application. See the wikipedia entry for details.

Faith Lens: Sept 20-27, 2006

I thought we would try something new, and see if we could get a discussion going on the blog. Faith Lens is a weekly Bible study/discussion put out by the ELCA. It may seem familiar since I have used it as a starting point for discussions at youth group meetings.

The event itself is Nov 3-5, but we will need to send our registration in by Sept 30, so contact Zach if you want to go for the details.

Parent/Youth Meeting Feb 5 @ 8:30 am

It's time to come up with Youth events & activities for 2006. In
order to make more events & trips happen we'll be changing the system
for planing & executing events. But first the details.

Sunday February 5th @ 8:30 am since we'll be trying to multitask with
stuffing Valentines to our college students.

So in order to make this meeting short & effective as possible both
youth & parents have some homework for the meeting. Brainstorm of
list of activities you would like to see happen. Then after your are
done creating your list, think about if you would be willing to help
plan, advertise, call, & run the activity.

And that brings us to the major change for the planning & execution
of events. Since no one as enough time to plan, advertise, &
everything for events, I'm blatantly stealing an idea from another
youth group in the synod. Basically the idea is that an event will
not go forward until 1 youth & 1 adult (other than myself or Carol)
take on the responsibility to be in charge of the event. They can
still ask for some help from others (including myself and Carol), but
the follow-through (calling others to make sure they have completed
their tasks, etc) is up to the adult/youth pair.

Currently there are also some events that the Family Ministry have
coming up that could possibly have youth support if anyone steps up
to do the management.

If you have any questions feel free to talk to me on Sunday or e-mail
me.
